IN MEMORY OF PHILIP B. POLSTER

All of his friends and colleagues at Polster, Lieder, Woodruff
and Lucchesi are saddened by the loss of their senior member and
founder, Philip B. Polster, on February 10, 2009.
For sixty
years, Phil Polster quietly gave his clients a huge competitive
advantage by analyzing complex situations and quickly
identifying the issues that were critical to achieving the
client’s interests, stripping away the superfluous. He was a
superb teacher and mentor, bringing respect and encouragement as
well as thoughtful guidance to everyone who was fortunate enough
to work with him. He was instrumental in building a fine
intellectual property firm, gaining well deserved continuous
recognition in the Best Lawyers in America from the very
first edition of that publication.
Since
graduating from the Washington University School of Law in 1948,
he always led by example, setting the highest standards of
honesty, integrity, decency, compassion, generosity, and above
all humility. In April 2008, he was honored as a Distinguished
Alumni of the School of Law. His example, rather than any overt
encouragement, led all three of his children into the practice
of law. Three grandchildren are also lawyers. Two of them are
patent lawyers.
Phil Polster
served on the University City school board, was chairman of the
Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis Patent Section and
served as deacon, elder and chairman of the board of trustees of
the First Presbyterian Church of St. Louis. During WWII he served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Reserves as a Skipper of an LCT 300 in the South Pacific. He was an active
member of the Rotary Club of St. Louis for over 45 years. He
was the epitome of "service above self."
Most
importantly, Phil Polster was our friend.
Our firm will
be closed on Friday, February 13, 2009 to attend Phil Polster’s
service.
